Members of the public are advised that in accordance with section 70 (1) of the Elections Act employers shall on Election Day allow every voter in his employ a reasonable period for voting. The section further provides that no employer shall make any deduction from the pay or other remuneration of the voter or penalise him in anyway as a result of his absence during that period.
Section 70 (2) of the Act provides that any employer who interferes with the granting to any voter in his employ of a period for voting is liable on summary conviction to a fine of $20,000 or to imprisonment for six (6) months.
